Sharing circle under the stars
This was our final evening circle together, everyone sitting around the fire as night lowered around us. As our faces became obscured in shadows, the dying flames only hinting at the contours of our features, the stories people shared became more intimate, more vulnerable. "Out there, at school and at home, showing feelings and crying like this is a weakness. I can't afford to show it because then someone will take advantage of that; I will be bullied and not given respect. But here, at El Ranchito, sharing my history and showing my feelings is courage and strength." ~Salma
